RESUMO

This paper presents a single-fed, single-layer, dual-band antenna with a large frequency ratio of 4.74:1 for vehicle-to-vehicle communication. The antenna consists of a 28 GHz inset-fed rectangular patch embedded into a 5.9 GHz patch antenna for dual-band operation. The designed dual-band antenna operates from 5.81 to 5.99 GHz (Dedicated Short Range Communications, DSRC) and 27.9 to 30.1 GHz (5G millimeter-wave (mm-wave) band). Furthermore, the upper band patch was modified by inserting slots near the inset feed line to achieve an instantaneous bandwidth of 4.5 GHz. The antenna was fabricated and measured. The manufactured prototype operates simultaneously from 5.8 to 6.05 GHz and from 26.8 to 31.3 GHz. Notably, the designed dual-band antenna offers a high peak gain of 7.7 dBi in the DSRC band and 6.38 dBi in the 5G mm-wave band.

RESUMO

Amongst the benign cardiac tumours, atrial myxomas are the commonest. Tricuspid valve attachment is an uncommon site for cardiac myxoma. Here we present the case of an 18-year-old girl who presented with a history of shortness of breath, abdominal distension, leg swelling, palpitations and dizziness for the past two months. On echocardiography, there was a large pedunculated mass attached to the tricuspid valve. She underwent surgical excision of the mass and biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of myxoma. In conclusion, myxoma originating from tricuspid valve is a rare tumour, which can cause tricuspid valve obstruction and right heart failure symptoms due to their location. In these cases, shortness of breath, embolisation and symptoms of venous congestion are commonly observed.

RESUMO

The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. The most common symptoms include fever, cough, and shortness of breath (predominantly involving pulmonary function). However, there are lesser-known presentations that affect other systems too. Vascular complications have been reported in the literature focusing on venous thrombosis, which appears to be more common than arterial thrombosis. Among arterial thrombosis, mainly lower limb involvement is reported so far. Here, we report an unusual presentation in COVID-19, which presented with acute abdomen due to superior mesenteric artery thrombosis without respiratory symptoms. We report this case as a varied form of coronavirus complication presentation and highlight the need for eternal vigilance and a reactive approach for early diagnosis.

RESUMO

STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective case series. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to report the immunosuppression and secondary bacterial infection after dengue viral infection and the predilection of these infections in the spine. This can trigger further research in to this fact. The possibility of change in the serotype of dengue virus, which are neurotropic, may be looked into. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: This is the largest case series of epidural abscess with or without spondylodiscitis within 6 weeks following dengue virus infection. METHODS: We performed a retrospective review of all the eight cases treated for epidural abscess with or without spondylodiscitis within 6 weeks following dengue virus infection in our center during the period of 3 months from June 2017 to August 2017. RESULTS: Of the eight cases, three of them were infected with Methicillin Resistant Saphylococcus Aureus and all of them grew the bug in the blood culture. Three of them had Methicillin Sensitive Staphylococcus Aureus (MSSA), one with MSSA septicemia, and one had associated Elizabeth Kingia meningoseptica infection and one patient had positive Acid Fast Bacilli stained in smears. Two patients were infected with pseudomonas. Some patients had multiple site abscess and epidural abscess without spondylodiscitis. Five of them had neurological deficit, which recovered with abscess drainage and antibiotic treatment. The Erythrocyte Sedimentation rate, C-Reactive Protein, and serum ferritin were elevated in these patients. CONCLUSION: This is a large case series of epidural abscess with or without spondylodiscitis within 6 weeks following dengue virus infection. The predilection of dengue virus for the neural tissue should be further investigated. Post dengue immunosuppression also needs further study. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: 4.

RESUMO

There are certain situations in redo cardiac surgery in adults where it may not be possible to use alternate arterial cannulation sites like the common femoral artery and axillary artery. We report a case where we established safe cardiopulmonary bypass with common carotid artery cannulation in an adult patient. The patient underwent aortic valve replacement for severe aortic regurgitation 8 months after repair of type A aortic dissection plus aortic valve resuspension.
